I interspersed both throughout my climb, and it felt nice. Playing some BO1 aggro games felt like a good palate cleanser after some long grindy BO3 control matches. The ability to play BO1 and BO3 was a nice change. I guess if people get tilted off the earth in game one, they’re less likely to want to finish the match. I believe this happened over 10 times during my climb. It was interesting how often people would lose game one, and then surrender the match. I also attribute that to the speed with which I got through platinum I felt the decks were mostly more meta and happened to be creature focused, which Gruul Arcanists in particular ate for lunch. gold felt the most grindy, and I think that’s attributable to the fact that almost everyone ends up in gold at the start of a new season, so there was a vast mix of skill levels and off meta decks. It took me only a couple matches to get out of silver, 123 matches (a mix of BO1 and BO3) to get through gold, only 28 matches to get through platinum, and 97 matches to get through diamond. Tier protection was a god sent, both intra-tier and the permanent inability to move down tiers. Unlike other games, such as League of Legends, where making challenger is an incredible accomplishment that most players are not capable of, making mythic felt delightfully achievable but also challenging. I learned that getting to mythic is mostly a numbers game if you play enough games, and your win-rate is high enough, anyone can get there. It took me about 1.5 weeks of playing fairly consistently to hit Mythic. This was my first time getting to mythic, and the grind was actually pretty entertaining. Overall Match Record: 138 Wins, 101 Losses – 57.74% Win Rate Overall Game Record: 212 Wins, 163 Losses – 56.53% Win Rate ![]() I truly believe that most anyone with a solid grasp of magic rules and play patterns can get to mythic given enough time investment, and I hope this post helps people understand the process of a normal guy getting there! The data can be seen in my spreadsheet, HERE.īelow are the stats and some observations of the climb overall, as well as reflections on some of the decks that helped get me there. I recorded every match I played along the way, including which decks I played and which I played against. This was my first season attempting to climb on MTGA, and so I went all the way from silver to mythic. While this is painful to my wallet and wildcard stash, I think it has generated some cool data for you all to parse through. As a result, I’ve played many decks on my way to mythic, depending on my mood at the time. I know that, as a person, I’m fairly bad at focusing, especially in games. I hope you all can engage with the data and have thoughts about it as well. I’ve been documenting some of my climb to mythic on my YouTube channel, but I’ve also compiled what I think is some interesting data about my climb in spreadsheet form, and I’d like to expound upon it in this post here. I’ve been playing magic since Theros in paper, MTGO for about 2 years, and MTGA since War of the Spark. Hello reddit! My name is Josh, and I run the YouTube channel Spike Games. ![]()
